2023 Year End Review

In 2023, Mermaid Tasha LLC completed 176 events with the help of 16 contractors. Out of those events, 76 came from different clients! 37 additional events were PADI Mermaid certifications, from Basic Mermaid all the way to Basic Mermaid Instructor!

Our 2023 season started right on January 1 at the Penguin Swim to benefit Atlantic General Hospital. Princess Royale, the venue for the Penguin Swim, was so impressed they then hired us back for events in January and February! In March we participated in the Kid's Carnival for Unstoppable Joy.

Mermaid Tasha & the Whipray was published in March, and in April we had 4 book events, from book signings to book readings! In addition to our normal interactive events and meet and greets.

May is the official kickoff of mermaid season and saw 18 events. Some noteworthy events included tea parties, educational presentations, FurnanceTown's Faerie Festival, Maryland Coastal Bay Program's Bay Day, and Bethany Beach's Poseidon Festival, to name a few. For Poseidon Festival, we rented Sugar Siren's tank, Skittles, in addition to having story times, dry meet and greets, and a Discover Bethany Beach session!

During the summer season we were fortunate enough to have residencies from Bethany Beach, Delaware down to Chincoteague, Virginia. Our reoccurring residencies included Aloft Ocean City, ASHORE Resort & Beach Club, Bethany Beach Ocean Suites, Fenwick Shores, Sun Outdoors FrontierTown, Hyatt Place, Jellystone Chincoteague Island, Park Place, Maui Jack's Waterpark, Princess Royale, and Residence Inn Marriott Ocean City. While some residencies opted for our normal interactive swims, some took a chance on our new swim shows for 2023 and saw choreographed swim routines, story times, and meet and greets!

Of course, we still had plenty of one-off individual events during the summer as well, like SharkCon and events at Assateague State Park!

In August, Tasha went to Cozumel, Mexico for MerWeek where she got to network with other PADI Mermaid instructors, work with Brett Stanley Photography, and win 1st place Team, 3rd place individual in the MerGames!

Fall brought Halloween parties, Trunk or Treats, birthday parties, and more book signings.

In September, Tasha took her mermaiding international yet again. This time, she went to Iceland to mermaid in the Silfra Crack - the space between the North American and Eurasian continents! Thank you to Adventure Vikings, Doris Travels, and Thingvellir National Park for allowing this to happen. (Having PADI Mermaid certification helped!)

After Iceland, Tasha went to Mermaid Week Egypt with Mermaid Kat where she certified two mermaids from Sweden in Egypt, had the pleasure of working with Ian Gray Photography and D Image Factory again as well as work with ST.ERN Photo for the first time, and make new friends, like Siren Sara.

In October, Tasha also went to PADI Headquarters in California to earn her Mermaid Instructor Trainer rating, meaning she can now certify other PADI Mermaid Instructors! While there, she also earned her Emergency Oxygen Provider and Mermaid Against Debris instructor trainer ratings as well.

November and December were full of book signing events! We sold 17 books at one event! We also held a holiday Buy One Give One fundraiser, where for every book purchased online, an additional copy would be donated to a 2nd grade class at West Salisbury Elementary. Although we didn't sell many online, we ended up donating a book each for every student, the teacher, and the teacher's aide for that class - a total of 28 books.

Also in November, Tasha was awarded the Business Person of the Year from the Worcester County Chamber of Commerce. Awards were presented from the chamber, the town council, the State House of Representatives, and the State Senate, stating achievements as a performer, instructor, author, and environmental advocate! It was really nice to be recognized for the work that goes into Mermaid Tasha LLC.

In December we also partnered with OC MD Santa, Anna Catherine's Photography, and the Worcester County Chamber of Commerce to hold a fundraiser for a friend battling cancer - we raised $215 to help with her medical bills!

Let's make 2024 even more of a success!
